views from the studio windows, with snow:
it was a busy, strange first week. i think i forgot how disorienting it is to be in a new place, meeting new people, doing everything for the first time. somehow, i thought this would be a restful time, but i can already tell i was wrong about that. it’s going to be hard. but it’s also going to be really good! i can tell that, too. and i’m ready for it. i’m ready for some hard work, new ideas, new experiences.
i installed my work in the small gallery here today, and it will be up for the rest of the month. working through ideas for my book, figuring out what exactly it’s going to include and how i will print it. LOTS OF THINKING GOING ON HERE. the other component of my residency is working with the art-in-education program here at wsw. each spring a class of fifth graders is invited to the studio to work in intaglio, screenprinting, and papermaking. we visited the school on wednesday to give a little presentation and next week the students will arrive!! oh, boy. young people with sharp tools. it’s going to be fine. IT’S GOING TO BE FINE.
